CAD Modeling and Solidworks

Throughout the duration of my internship, I assisted in the design, drawings, and analysis of company products through means of Solidworks files.

Not only did I help to edit drawings and files, but I was able to create some of my own to be used by FIRSTRF throughout their design processes.

By means of surface modeling, FEA analysis, and advanced Solidworks design, I was able to assist FIRSTRF in their respective projects and R&D.

Summer Project

In preparation for a large upcoming company contract, my fellow engineering intern and I were tasked with developing a mockup of the physical product of the respective contract. This was to allow the engineering and production teams to develop a means of transportation, storage, and display when the true physical product arrived.

By creating sectional templates based off the profile of the product, my team member and I were able to transfer the templates to foam. From here we cut out the respective foam templates and then assembled the foam pieces into 4 distinct sections.

After some sanding, fine tuning, and lots of effort, we were able to deliver a solid replica of the product. If I could show you I would!

Production

What is amazing about FIRSTRF is that all aspects of their production cycle (from R&D to Engineering and Production and so much more) are all in the same building. It's because of this that I was able to work within the production facilities numerous times throughout my internship.

Here I was able to actually build and assemble the products and antennas that I had seen and been working on through Solidworks. I quickly learned how each product/contract varied (besides physically of course). Some projects were significantly more detail oriented and meticulous. Others were very straight forward and others were incredibly mechanically complex. Whichever it was depended on the nature of the product and it's respective contract.

Experience and Much More!

I am grateful for the incredible opportunities that I was given throughout the duration of this internship! I was able to shadow Engineers. Technicians, and other well respected and experienced individuals, and thus be able to learn directly from them.

I also was fortunate enough to undergo numerous trainings. Through production I learned the means of assembling a product with incredible intricacy. On top of that, I was also able to undergo trainings regarding GD&T and FEA Analysis in Solidworks.

Finally, and most importantly, I found a sense of community within the company. Despite part of the internship being remote due to the lasting effects of COVID-19, I felt that I had found a company where everyone is treated as a friend or family. I felt that I was given the upmost respect within my capabilities. When I needed clarification and support, it was there, and so was praise and confidence.

I very much am looking forward to continuing my employment here at FIRSTRF through an amazing co-op opportunity.

I was hired by FIRSTRF in May of 2021. Listed in the  middle is a summary of my projects I worked on and the experience that I gained! Due to the projects themselves being FIRSTRF Proprietary information, I can only include a brief summary and description of my projects and tasks.

My internship lasted from May 2021 to early August 2021.

I am extremely grateful to have been requested to return in late August by means of a co-op, that will last the duration of my school year. I am very excited and thankful to be working for this company!
